This review is from: Motorstorm Apocalypse (PS3) (Video Game)
Firstly I have all the Motorstorm games so far, but this one has left the biggest impression on me. The other 2 were good at the time, but this game takes it to a whole new level. The amount of carnage on screen this time round is unbelievable, you have ships falling from the sky, tornados tearing whole cities apart, trains smashing into the ground, ships destroying harbours, and excellent epilogue levels as you escape the crumbling city after each completed story mode. There's 3 story modes in total, Amateur, Pro and Veteran. Personally I couldn't care less about any storyline tacked onto a racing series, they're decent enough cut-scenes, but completely passable.
Quite a few levels stand out, particularly the Skyline level where, as soon as you start, buildings crumble before you, creating a path to race over, and it's fantastic. It's completely scripted, sure, but it's exhilarating to race through. The handling can be sluggish at times, so the handbrake becomes a crucial technique for powering through corners. You have NO choice for the vehicles you race as during the story mode, so you have to adapt along the way. If you want choice, choose a different mode. The soundtrack really helps enhance the action as well, composed by Klaus Badelt and top DJs and dance groups including Noisia, Elite Force and DJ Shadow. I completely recommend this game to adrenaline seekers. Get a decent gaming headset, raise the bass levels and enjoy.
