The Goldfrapp Masterpiece,
This review is from: Felt Mountain (Audio CD)
Without doubt the best album Alison Goldfrapp and Will Gregory have ever created, and even now more than a decade after its release 'Felt Mountain' is still a startlingly original, and deeply beautiful thing to behold.
The rich and affecting melodies evoke technicolor cinematic vistas, sensual French films from the 1960s, and James Bond cosmopolitanism, and the lushest of arrangements twist and soar around Alison's oh-so-sexy voice which in turn soars and is twisted by Will's artful use of filters and resampling.
None of their subsequent albums have matched this incredible debut (although 'Seventh Tree' comes closest in sound and style), 'Felt Mountain' never fails to send me somewhere impossibly nice to be.
