An enjoyable mystery but not McLevy's finest outing,
This review is from: Shadow of the Serpent (Inspector Mclevy Mysteries) (Kindle Edition)
The author does a perfect job of evoking the period and setting, the dialogue and details are believeable and precise. However I would say I found this novel lacking the humour and charm of the original audioplays and that McLevy felt more as if he were just dragged along for the ride than actually using any of his usual guile or subterfuge to solve the case himself. The author also made the choice to frequently switch the point of view between characters which I found to be confusing and disrupted the flow of the story.
If you like detective stories or period dramas then you will definitely enjoy this book but McLevy enjoys far better outings elsewhere.
