I am lucky enough to be living in Catalonia surrounded by restaurants which range from those serving traditional spanish food to Michelin starred establishments with food that sometimes sounds as if it came from a chemistry lab. The shops are full of ingredients I have never heard of and don't know how to use. After five years here I have experimented and learnt a lot but most of the 'spanish recipes' I've found in english have concentrated on modern styles of food. Then along came Claudia's book. Within hours of reading it I learnt more than I had in the 5 years and can now polish off reasonable copies of some of the things I have enjoyed in the more traditional restaurants. Better still I have learnt more about spanish culture and the food influences going back centuries. It's the kind of information you grow up learning about your own culture, just what I needed. The photographs are lovely but it is a pity they don't have captions.
