The epic battle between Negi and Fate continues with both parties preparing massive spells designed to destroy their opponent. Once this battle is over however unexpected reinforcements show up for both sides as the fight to save the Magic World reaches its climax and Class 3-A attempt to awaken the sleeping Asuna.
This thirty-sixth volume of the 'Negima!' manga concludes the Magic World arc with a greatly entertaining fight. The volume gives us a chance to see what the adult cast members are truly capable of as they face off against Cosmo Enchilada while Negi finally comes face to face with the Lifemaker. The volume also gives us a flashback to Fate's past, showing us just why he is so different to the other members of the Averruncus Series, is meeting with the Thousand Master and how he first met Shiori. We also get to meet Secundum and some of the other former members of Cosmo Enchilada.
Some fans were disappointed at how the Magic World arc ended due to the use of the Power of Friendship but seeing as this is one of the themes of the series I personally quite like it. I will admit that even I thought the final few chapters had something of a rushed feel when I first read the after their weekly release but reading the entire thing in this volume makes them flow much better.
The translation of the volume is somewhat odd as it seems to switch from fully translating spells at the beginning to leaving them in the appropriate for the rest of the volume. There are also some other minor translation issues here and there but it generally seems to be reasonably good.
This was another great volume of 'Negima!' and one that is well worth a full five stars. Unfortunately there are only two volumes of the series left after this and this early end means that the series isn't as epic as it could have been but it is still easily my favourite manga.
