I've been writing for quite a while now and have read plenty of books on the subject. This was well written and cut straight to the point without babbling. Some of the things at the start of the book were simple and if you don't know them, then you pretty much are a beginner; so it's helpful in that way. For people trying to break into publishing it has great ideas on things that lecturers don't always share, like the sound of your writing.
I didn't find the part about characterization at all helpful - which was a shame. However, I do find myself going back to this book, as it holds lots of helpful infomation, and the writer doesn't mince his words. It's great to hear how a publisher or agent feels and what they in particular are looking for. I find this book helpful and would reccomend it to anyone trying to understand the industry properly.
