... improve your French and actually gets you started talking. I don't understand why so many reviewers had such high expectations when they bought this product??!! French, as any other language, cannot be taught in 20 lessons to perfection. And it also cannot be learned using only one method (again, not to perfection). One has to carefully chose the right method for the right purpose. This particular method introduces (or reintroduces) you to the language in a natural way. What do I mean by this? Say you are in France (Belgium, Switzerland, Canada...) on holiday, or you actually moved there recently. What would be the first words you would understand? Of course, those that are very close to the English. And that would encourage you to listen to whomever is communicating something to you (shop keeper, person on TV, neighbour) more carefully. And maybe even to try answering. The second point is that in real life you don't only get to go to the shop and ask for bread. You get to hear many and very diverse pieces of information. Whatever is of interest to you, or what you actually pick up, is a different story. Plus, when learning more difficult structures and more diverse contexts, the part of your brain that is responsible for languages gets ACTIVATED. You are forced to be active, and not just learn words passively. Therefore, 4 stars. -1 star because NO method is perfect, as I said in the beginning!
