This was my first Swan Lake. Back then, some years ago when I bought it, the only thing I knew about it was that it was an important ballet and that a famous dancer called Nureyev was in it. I watched it and was disappointed because even when I thought the dancing was good, I felt nothing viewing it. I found the music not with the grandeur it should have and in the end I was not moved at all so I took some distance from any ballet experience for some time. I'm grateful that I eventually came back to the enjoyment of dancing (an old vid of Ulanova dancing the pas de deux came in my rescue) but I still have something strange with Swan Lake and I'm still looking for that full performance that really makes me love this ballet.
As for the critic itself, other comments are surely best that mine could be.
I would not recommend this as a first Swan Lake or a second or even a third to your collection. But it can be bought for historical reasons.
