3.0 out of 5 stars a disappointing compilation, 29 July 2010
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: Trojan Dub: Foundation Dub (Audio CD)
the cover proclaims "40 hard and heavy sounds!" but the whole thing is pretty lightweight, particularly the start of disc 1,
theres some really strange choices for supposed heavy dub compilation: ie:Gregory Isaacs & Susan Cadogan but no Tappa Zukie or Prince Far-I,
and Just one unrepresentative track from Augustus Pablo

nothing on "foundation dubs" is even as heavy/Dark as UB40's Present arms in Dub and thats hardly considered hardcore!

Don Lett's "Dread meets Punk rockers uptown", although not entirely dubs has a much better selection of classic dark & Heavy dubs

I also recommend Virgins "adventures in and beyond dub" which has only one duff track and has some Excellent Jamaican originals

the Burning Spear Productions compilation has some great dubs too

also i find some of the mastering choices on "foundaton dubs" perverse, very few of the tracks have a killer low end, and the harsh treble really screams in a few places

i really expected something more hypnotic and satisfying from this cd.
I really don't know who this cd is aimed at or who will get much out of it

maybe i'm getting old & jaded

Dear Mr Bucknall, It sounds like there was a mix up and the wrong compact discs were put in by mistake. I must admit, basing any view on a mere 30s clip on Amazon is going to be fraught with risk, but Augustus Pablo song, Gun Trade, sounded like a perfect example of his melodica playing, so I'm a bit baffled by your report. the bass sounded fine on the tiny speakers in this computer, so I would have thought with a subwoofer, you'd find it pretty easy to annoy your neighbors with this cd. Don Letts' compilation is a fine one, there's no doubt, but anyone who already likes some of the tracks on it will already have most of them anyway. I will happily send you my details and postage costs if you would like me to relieve you of your less than satisfying cd. It's clearly aimed at people like me who would probably get a fair bit of wear and use out of it, but I'm reluctant to invest because I think I have most of the songs already, albeit scattered over records, albums, compilations and tapes. If, having tried turning up the volume a bit more, you're of the same view, pls get in touch.
