4 rather than 5 stars becuase its really good, but not perfect......
Baught the Atom primerily for mounting on my mountain bike. First impression was that this recorder lives up to being miniscule, about the size of the upper part of your thumb! Build quaility, well, the switches for on/off and voice record are a little loose to be honest but apart from that the metal casing, LED indicators and mounting accessories are very well made.
This model also boasts the ability to take photographs unlike the larger older Muvi. Still image quality is a bit iffy, not even up to the standards of today's mobile phones, but for the size I suppose one cannot complain.
Video recording is pretty much straight forward: switch on,press record once to start, press again to stop, or select voice ativited. So far I've got about 20-30 minutes of straight recording before it has stopped. Not sure if thats because of the battery (stated to last "up to" an hour)or limitations of the supplied 2GB memory card, or both. I found that it seems to stop, back up and then record again by itself. Only thing is the second recording only lasts seconds. I'm upgrading to a 4 GB card (it should accept up to 8 GB) and have ordered a mini USB solar charger to see if I can record longer. Sound is surprisingly good from what I was expecting. Agian not earth shatteringly brilliant but clean enough and not jerky or skippy. Wind noise on the bike is an issue, I'll probably end up putting a woolly thimble hat on it to cut the effect down!
Overall, and for its intended use, Its a great little gadget, so small that it should actally be protected by other parts of the bike, and weight wise, negligable. The pack includes a helmet mount, magnetic mount, several other straps that I have yet to descover what to do with, a clip and CD with editing software. Hooking up to the PC, and switched on, its read as a USB storage device, and will also record whilst connected and charging.
