I think Wayne's review pretty much sums up this excellent story. NOBODY writes like JOE R.LANSDALE and this was my first experience reading one of Joe's novels (1995), I was just minding my own business browsing in the bookstore, when I came apon this book cover (which over in England, is different),I like the USA cover better on this one and to be honest with you, reading this book opened up a place I had not been to in many years, just sitting and enjoying a fast paced roller coaster ride of a book with so much attidude, chilling, funny yet right in your face! I did not think anyone wrote like this. After years of reading Stephen King, John Farris, Anne Rice, John Coyne, and so many other great horror/mystery/dark fantasy writers to name a few, I found a writer who could chill, thrill, and also write a great mystery, and make you laugh so hard but still care about the characters in this book and make you want to read MORE! JOE R. LANSDALE remains my favorite and more than deserved the Edgar Award (Best Mystery 2001) he just received for his fantastic lastest novel "THE BOTTOMS" here in the states.
