This review is from: Trust the Process: An Artist's Guide to Letting Go (Paperback)
I like reading about how artists go about inspiring their creative muse, or simply improving their mental approach to work, and have several such volumes. This is the worst of the lot - page, after page of repetitious, often meaningless, pretentious and flowery psychobabble, conflicting advice, mis-statements and ludicrous suggestions; for example, the author seems to think we should express our appreciation of paintings by improvised singing and dancing in front of them; behaviour which would soon have you ejected from any art gallery, if not locked up.
"The Process" of the title appears to be an abstract concept the author has dreamed up all by himself and endowed with spiritual powers, expressed, for example, through "gestural" painting out of the mind's control. Hmm. It is the work of an educationalist committed to the promotion of therapy as a profession, and embellishing it to the ultimate degree, to the point of weirdness, in fact, in order to do so. Try, for example, "Art and fear" instead.
