I've been watching Spiral since it first appeared on BBC4 three or so years ago. It's a truly great tv series, that raises questions about why we Brits can't produce intellilgent and yet hugely entertaining tv of this calibre.
The acting is uniformly excellent. The characters are intriguing, and while the intricacies of the French legal system take a little time to adjust to, this is well worth the effort. This is not the Paris of romance, flowers and chocolate, but a grimy, corrupt hell of chaotic humanity. The line between heroes and villains has scarcely ever been finer. The cops' robust policing methods are eye-watering to say the least. One leaves the world of 'Spiral' shaken, disturbed, and thoroughly relieved to be English. (Or so I fondly imagined, until I watched 'The Shadow Line', but that's another story...)
