I admit this is my first DSLR and was originally looking to by a camcorder to take nice video of my yet to be born child growing up. I was seriously considering the Panasonic X920 but decided ultimately to go for the 700D. Why? It takes better video (in my opinion) than a high end camcorder, and takes seriously good pictures. My girlfriend has previously had a Canon DSLR (purchased years ago) and it turned out much cheaper for me to buy the EOS700D. I love it. I know some people have gripes that it's not much an upgrade from the previous models in this range, but I'm not bothered about that as it's my first DSLR. Amazing photos, amazing videos - and about the same weight and more or less the same size as the camcorder I was going to buy - and cheaper!. I do wonder how much life 'camcorders' have now that DSLRs are becoming cheaper than camcorders and much better in all aspects. I didn't buy my Canon 700D from amazon, I got from somewhere else as I got a good warranty on it, but just thought I'd leave this review to help anyone thinking about this camera. I also purchased a Canon EF50mm f/1.8 II lens for good close portrait stuff.
