Back through the pack,
This review is from: Back Through the Pack (Paperback)
This is THE most boring bridge book I have ever seen. I would give it zero stars if allowed to do so!
It is a pity because many of the hands & points made are actually interesting, BUT he makes the cards "talk" eg the "ten of hearts says ...." and as if that is not bad enough, he (ie the ten of hearts!) calls the other cards, "cousins" & "brothers". All this does is make the book confusing!
For example, I quote:- "The king of diamonds grunted 'These days some players open at the three level with a Jack-high suit. It's terrible, I say, but if this west is like that then a simple finesse in diampnds might work.'
'I'm afraid, or should I say I'm pleased to say, West holds you.' End of quote.
By then you forgotten who "you" is! But the criticism of opening 3 level bids with Jack-high suits is valid, if you noticed it in passing!
I am actually not sure I am going to make it to the end of the book and I am bridge mad and not noted for giving up easily!
