Customer Review

on 13 April 2014
Watched this the other night and it left me feeling quite angry and very disapointed! Now, Im no Tolkien fanboy, but what Peter Jackson has made here is an embarrassingly god awful film, a total bastardisation of what in my opinion was a pretty decent book. The first film was ok. Nothing special....but this 'new' instalment takes the biscuit.
The low point (one of many, believe me) had to be the 'barrels' scene, that has to be one of the worst bits of cinema I've ever seen in my life. It was hilariously funny for all the wrong reasons. To think that grown adults sat down and thought that was a great idea amazes me quite frankly. Its embarrassingly bad. And it doesn't get any better from then on either. The end of the film is a disjointed mess, the highlight being seeing one of our 'heroes' belly surf on a river of liquid gold no less! Are these dwarves meant to be made of asbestos? Please, for the love of god, there should be some plausibility in every film, yes, even films about elves, dwarves, dragons and wizards. I was half expecting Captain America or a bus load of laser toting aliens to turn up as the implausibility stakes are ramped up to the max here, but hey, with the impossibly nimble, seemingly immortal Legolas et al on hand who needs other random bits of cr*p thrown into the mix anyway? I've totally had it with Peter Jackson and his newest money printing franchise. The LoTR films were good tbf but I wouldn't recommend this rubbish to anyone.
