Don't get me wrong, I like stripped down songs. I am a big fan of Smog and Hayden amongst purveyors of this genre, but Sufjan does not hit the same buttons with me. Smog tend to vary the instrument (whether child vocal, cheerleader chant, piano or guitar) from track to track which gives you a variety and feel that they are pushing the artform. Sufjan has a tnkling banjo sound on every track which gives a samey feel and leaves you wondering how he will make the next one different, only to find he doesn't. Nice songs, but limited in scope and needing more adventure.
