Customer Review

An excellant and interesting story.

Donovan O'Shea has lived in America since he was 17 and couldn't wait to leave Ireland. He is reluctantly drawn back again when his father suffers a stroke, which necessitates him living in a nursing home and Donovan and his sister need to settle arrangements for his father's pub and sell the family cottage and land.

His reluctance is based on the fact that Donovan has a secret 'gift', or curse, that he has inherited from his late mother. He has "The Sight", or clairvoyance.

Donovan has no trouble with his 'gift' in America. However, once back in Ireland and particularly when he is around the family cottage and the fell land on which it is situated, then the buzzing in his head begins again and he again sees people from the past and 'witnesses' things which have happened on the land. This appears to happen particularly on the fell land, because at one time it was populated by Celts and anything Celtic e.g. jewellry etc., triggers Donovan's visions.

A professor and his assistant from Belfast University have discovered Celtic artifacts on the land and are organising a dig. Good news for Donovan, as the University now want to buy the cottage and land. Bad news, in that the artifacts found trigger Donovan's visions.

Then American, Rylie Powell turns up at the pub to seek out the father who abandoned her and her mother when Rylie was just a baby. Her mother has recently died and Rylie has found her own birth certificate which names Dermot O'Shea as her father. She sets a PI on finding the man.

Donovan and Rylie are instantly attracted to each other and horrified that they may be half-sister and brother; although Donovan is sure that that is all nonsense.

Gradually family secrets become uncovered of identities taken, old lust turning to retribution, tradegy and blackmail, and turn both Donovan and Rylie's worlds upside down.

Murder has taken place in the past and in the present and the only way of finding out the truth is for Donovan and Rylie to go into the fells to seek out Donovan's Celtic Druid and warrior friends, by means of his 'Sight'. However, it is nearly Samhain (Halloween) and the ghosts of the fells are at large.

A fascinating bit of information given in this book is about the "Niall Marker". Apparently, up to 15 - 20% of the population of men in Ireland (North and South) have the "Niall Marker" in their genes. Inherited from the 5th century Celtic High King of Ireland, Niall of the Nine Hostages, who was somewhat prolific, to put it politely. The "Niall Marker" is inherited directly from father to son. So the next time an Irishman tells you that he is the descendant of a king, he just might be telling you the truth!

A fascinating read of love, mystery and psychic happenings.
