This review is from: Heirloom Embroidery: Inspired Designer Projects & Beautiful Stitching Techniques: Inspired Designer Projects and Beautiful Stitching Techniques (Hardcover)
This is a lovely, lovely book and - although I am a keen machine embroiderer - it really made me want to get out my needles and silks again!
There are 26 beautiful designs divided into 5 sections, Hearts, Country Garden, Seaside, Botanicals and Bugs and Celebrations. Designs range from the simple to the more time consuming but I do not believe you have to be highly experienced in embroidery to tackle any of these designs. The stitches are very simple, mainly chainstitch, stem stitch and blanket stitch and the projects vary from cushions to tote bags to lavender sachets to throws. Something for everyone. One especially nice thing is that instructions are given to actually make the tote bags, aprons etc instead of assuming you will go and buy a "blank"
So why have I given it only 4 stars instead of 5?
One - I searched in vain for the seagull design and the dove sachet which were not included and
Two - One has to enlarge the designs on a photocopier (one of my pet peeves) IO understand why this is done but much prefer designs in a separate pocket at the back of the book.
But overall I absolutely love this book and would recommend it to anyone who wants to throttle back, take some time for themselves and create something really beautiful by hand.
