Whilst not up there with the remakes of Texas Chainsaw Massacre or Dawn Of The Dead, I thought this was more than passable. Certainly superior to the home made cine-projector look of the original(I saw it on a rerelease October 1998 and the WHOLE audience laughed at it!), it's refreshing to see good production values! For a start, there is almost a whole movies worth of butchery BEFORE the beginning credits and the movie moves at a good pace from then on. There is more than enough gore and the effects are generally excellent - seemingly more use of prosthetics than CGI. There is one really sadistic scene of a screwdriver (I think) driven slowly into a hapless victim's chin that really lingers. As for Jason -well, I prefer the more slow moving killer of old BUT overall, thumbs up. Good to see both the sack and the hockey mask employed. Apparently the supernatural tones are lowered here but trust me, Jason still seems to have remarkable powers of resurrection in this film. A sequel surely?? Oh, and nice machete work. And what an interesting touch to see that Jason has impressive skills as an archer. Nice move! Overall, not as good as Zombie's reboot of the Myers franchise but still a very pleasant surprise.
