5.0 out of 5 stars The first four Groundhogs' albums in a stunning box set., 21 Mar. 2000
This review is from: Four Groundhogs Originals (Audio CD)
The first four Groundhogs' albums presented in a superb box set. These four LP's from '68 -'71 demonstrate the musical progression of the Groundhogs from a pure blues band into heavy melodic rock. Tony McPhee is a true original - one of the great guitarists. Although the first LP was not outstanding the other three are. 'Thank Christ for the Bomb' (1970) and 'Split' (1971) are not only classic albums, they are genuine milestones in the history of rock. Each CD here is presented in a CD size version of the original cover. All of these sleeves are highly original especially 'Thank Christ' and 'Blues Obituary' where the band are burying a bluesman with his guitar. Included in the box set are excellent notes and archive photos in a folded poster style sheet. This is an essential addition for all aficionados of the Groundhogs. For the uninitiated this is a superb introduction to one of the best bands ever!
