Design for the future,
This review is from: Universal Principles of Design, Revised and Updated: 115 Ways to Enhance Usability, Influence Perception, Increase Appeal, Make Better Design Decisions and Teach Through Design (Paperback)
I dipped into this book in Truro, but replaced it thinking that had limited uses to the layman, even though I am very interested in art and design. However, after thinking for a wekk about why a design for an embroidery I was doing just didn't work, even after multiple amendments, I wondered whether this had something to teach the beginner.
The book is very 'American' in spellings, and examples, which is hardly surprising as its writers are American, but if you can get over this, it is well laid out, concise, and interesting, especially for a beginner, as each point is punchy, and the works that the points are taken from are given as references for further reading, rather than regurgitated in great lumps.
This is not a book to sit and read from cover to cover in one go, rather to dip into for a few pages at a time - great bedtime reading, I found.
I am looking at designs with a more informed, analytical eye, and I can now translate some of what my graphic designer nephew is talking about!
