A Fresh Sound,

This review is from: A Thousand Suns [Explicit] (MP3 Download)
This album suprised me at first as it's very different from the last. It's less melodic, less commercial but more importantly; it's a lot better.
I loved Minutes to Midnight; it worked on so many levels. A Thousand Suns works on a lot of different ones but still has that incredibly unique sound the band has.
If I had to sum up how this album sounds, I would say there are a lot of similarities to the Resident Evil films' soundtracks. There's a very mechanical, industrial vibe to many of the songs; "When They Come for Me" and "Waiting for the End to Come" are two of the bands' best written songs in my opinion.
Like the last album, there are some stunning tracks on display; The messenger has a simple guitar melody behind some of the most raw vocals I've heard from this band. It works and is a great way to end the album.
The only gripe I have is that the album didn't really need the interludes and for me they actually distract from the great songs on the album.
This is evolution for the band; It's a great progression of their musicality and I can't wait to see where they take it next.
