Legends of Andor is a cooperative game for 2-4 players.
You control a hero either a Dwarf, Wizzard, fighter or elf. Each has there own character board and there own special ability. Try to defend Andor or die trying.
The first thing that strikes you about this game is just how beautiful the artwork is. Michael Menzel created the artwork for other games, Cuba, Stone Age and they are striking as well. This is his first attempt at game design and I think that it is a fantastic first time effort.
The game is unusual in the fact that to begin with you learn as you play the game. And to that end there are very few rules to learn. There are 5 legends that are are all linked to each other in a story that plays out to a climax at the end. Legend one is a tutorial level and will guide you through how the basics in the game work. Future legends will add more rules as you progress. Each legend will have objectives that you have to suceed in to advance to the next legend. Gameplay is very easy, basically a hero can do one standard action, move, fight or wait. And then he can do a variety of free actions. The games timer so to speak is a pawn that moves along a Letered track and basicaly you will need to complete the objectives before the pawn reaches the last square on that track. The clever part of this time track is that everytime you kill a monster the pawn advances, this is good because it is not just a fact of killing loads of monsters to win. Because of that you have to plan just how many monsters you can afford to kill. Which is a great touch and makes the game not just a fight fest. I will not go into each legend as it will spoil the story but I will say that there are some realy nice surprises along the way as you play.
This is a great game, full of fantasy elements very easy to teach( learn as you play)the components are top quality and the game just looks georgeous. Each time we have played this it realy has come down to the wire or the last throw of the dice.
If you like a bit of fantasy or not! And some good fun then this is a must. I would add that you can play this solo by just using two characters.
10/10 for me
