Customer Review

on 20 August 2013
I bought this book after reading rave reviews - however, I was disappointed. It took quite a while to read as it just wasn't a page turner - I would read a chapter or so, put it down and happily not pick it up again for a week!
The language is very unrealistic, given that the narrator is a teenage girl - it really doesn't ring true, leading to it being difficult to relate to the character. All the teenage characters in the story speak as though they have swallowed a dictionary, which just makes it read as too wordy and pretentious. I think if the author wanted to show off his command of the English language, he should have chosen to use a third party or omniscient narrator rather than try to have the reader believe that a teenage girl would talk and think this way.
