I bought this game because of its history. Apparently the developers took 10 years to bring this to the market and it flunked. I wanted to see why. Play the first level and it is pretty obvious. Serves them right for putting Rip Van Winkle in charge of the project!
Basically this is a futuristic Viking themed hack 'n' slash with an RPG element tagged on. As a hacker it is reasonable, the RPG bit adds nothing fundemental to the gameplay. So off you go hacking and slashing hordes of beasties through every doorway and you will quickly realise that the game gets repetative very quickly. You can of course choose to shoot instead but I wouldn't bother as the ballistic weapons are rubbish and auto target anything but the target you want.
Graphically, the game is average but decent enough. It is set in a HALO style universe. Music wise there is not much but the sound effects are annoying. You can't adjust the sound but unless you want to get an ASBO you'll need to turn it down a notch and thus you can't hear the dialogue. Not that you will miss much.
The camera is dreadful but it can be recentred. You cannot control it. The right stick is for slashing and is awkward because direction rotates with the character. It takes a bit of getting used to. The game auto saves frequently. You can manually save but that is only for your 'adjustments' in RPG mode. Story wise the isn't one of such and if there is meant to be it is a load of cack. It is immaterial anyway and the whole purpose it to slash anything that moves. Interestingly, you are part of a squad. Evertime a baddy shows up they bugger off leaving you to do all the dirty work and then re-appear at the end. Cool.
There are plenty of cut scenes and you get a little animation every time you die (a lot) when a Valkyrie comes down and picks you up then plonks you a bit back from where you were. There are never enough health pick-ups.
Too Human isn't a bad game it just isn't a good one. Repetative, frenzied combat where you can tinker with your armour and swords etc from time to time. If you are looking for a good RPG then this isn't it. If you like games where all you have to do is press A continuously then you'll like this except you get to use a joystick for a change.
