Good introduction to the Eastern Orthodox Church but,

unfortunately no coverage of the Oriental Orthodox Churches, which is a shame. The Oriental Orthodox Churches are as much part of the Universal Orthodox Church as the Eastern churches and it is a pity that otherwise readable and relevant book does not cover them.

You seem to have missed the fact that Kallistos Ware is not an Oriental Orthodox Christian (Monophysite), but an Eastern Orthodox Christian, who accepts the 4th and subsequent 3 other Ecumenical Councils. This is what separates the two, and they are not in ecclesiastical communion, so it would be a bit silly to treat them. A good book on the Ethiopian Orthodox Church is Towards a Fuller Vision: Pt. 1: My Life and the Ethiopian Orthodox Church - a Short History. and also The Church of the East: An Illustrated History of Assyrian Christianity

"That they all may be one; as thou, Father, art in me, and I in thee, that they also may be one in us: that the world may believe that thou hast sent me. And the glory which thou gavest me I have given them; that they may be one, even as we are one: I in them, and thou in me, that they may be made perfect in one; and that the world may know that thou hast sent me, and hast loved them, as thou hast loved me." John 17:21-23
I am very well aware that Bishop Kallistos belongs to the Eastern Orthodox Church, and that our churches are unfortunately not in communion despite our common roots. It is factually wrong to refer to the Oriental Orthodox Churches as "monophysite" - the doctrines of both Nestorius and Eutychianism have been condemned by the Oriental Orthodox Churches centuries ago. The Christology of the Oriental Orthodox Churches is that of St Cyril of Alexandria ("μία φύσις τοῦ θεοῦ λόγου σεσαρκω

Hi, thank you very much for your correction. I was aware of the actual doctrinal stance of the Oriental Orthodox Churches, but I believe my point still stands: Kallistos Ware is specifically writing about the Eastern Orthodox Churches which are in ecclesiastical communion with each other. The book was written for Western audiences; people who have very little or no contact with Eastern Orthodoxy. It was written with the intention of drawing people into his communion. To write about the Oriental Churches may not have helped him in that goal. These are just my thoughts.
