We did our research on the comparative merits of the White, Silver and Black editions of the GoPro before buying and decided on the Silver on balance because of better features than the White and the difference in cost to the Black. The Black has features well suited to the professional user and beyond anything we needed, so although the Silver doesn't come with a wi-fi remote, we can always add one at a later date if we find we need it. So far, we have given it a fairly thorough testing on a cycle and around the house, and I can only say that the results are faultless. If you choose the widest angle aspect, you have to accept that there is some distortion at the outside edges, but on a less wide view, there's almost no distortion. The colours are really true to life and very crisp, even on a bike being ridden quite hard on less than smooth surfaces (attached on a chest mount). Focus is sharp at all times and exposure is quick to respond when changing quickly between dark and light conditions.
We haven't tested the waterproof case yet.
Sound-wise, don't expect wonders with the sealed housing in place. There is a skeleton housing back provided for conditions that don't require the waterproof protection and then the sound improves.
All in all, the GoPro is everything we were looking for and more. The only very slight criticism we might have is that "out of the box", the only method of attaching the camera to anything is to use the sticky pad mounts, so be prepared to either have something that you want a mount attached to permanently, or otherwise buy one of the many other mounting options at the same time. If you are impatient like us, buy an extra, as we have been advised that when using the sticky pads, they should be left for 24-48 hours to harden fully before use.
Would recommend to anyone who wants an action cam - picture quality excellent, price competitive, small and neat, and the build quality/reputation are seldom bettered. 11/10
