This is a story with 2 main threads that slowly weave together.
Tom is a father who made a number of bad choices in his life and has returned to town to try and put some of his past back together, especially his relationship with his son Frank. Spud is another troubled father figure, struggling with his home life that appears to be splintering apart (problems with the relationship with both his wife and kid) and a work life that may be becoming obsolete. The two stories come closer and closer together, as Tom tries to figure out what has happened to his son, and Spud tries to figure out how to solve the problems with his life.
The book has nicely written characters, well written dialogue, and is wistfully funny in a significant number of parts. I read the whole book over a weekend so I would have to put it in the easy to read category as well. Definitely worth a look.
