A book desperately in search of a sequel,
This review is from: Cerulean Sins (Anita Blake, Vampire Hunter) (Hardcover)
Although I did enjoy this latest Anita Blake book, it left me feeling slightly frustrated. The central core of the book deals with the usual vampiric machinations and introduces a suitably horrific "uber-villainess" into the mix. The requisite serial killer sub-plot felt "tacked on" to me, and to be honest the book read more like an introduction to the next installment than a complete book in its own right.
That said, even in a "bad" book, Laurell's ability to tell a compelling story is amazing. She does however seem to have moved Anita's story much more into the realms of "dark" (read erotic) fantasy, more in keeping with the Merry Gentle books, but that's not necessarily a bad thing.
Basically a good read, but I know that she can do so much better, so a little bit of a disappointment. Fingers crossed for the next book.
