Not Perfect but Still Manages to be Brilliant.,
This review is from: Lady In Satin (Audio CD)
It is reported that Billie Holiday herself said that this session which finds her accompanied by the Ray Ellis string orchestra was her personal favorite, and many people have found her emotional versions of the songs to be very moving, like I'm a Fool to Want You, and You've Changed.
But sadly by 1958 when these songs were recorded her voice was essentially gone. However, there are wonderful musical arrangements by Ellis and Holiday expresses the pain of life so effectively that her croaking voice becomes a deeply moving story telling instrument and all the experience of her tragic life creates the most telling and moving album.
