My all time favourite Gemmell....,
This review is from: Morningstar (Paperback)
...and that is saying something.
I think what did it for me with this book was (i) the regular plot twists, (ii) the way it all came together in the penultimate chapter, leaving albeit a couple of loose ends, and (iii) the way it was all well and truly tied up in the llast chapter leaving everything sorted with a giant full stop.
A bit like the very end of Beethoven's 5th when you can get out of your seat knowing it's well and truly the end of the symphony and you're not embarassing yourself by getting up between movements. Musical movements I mean.
Some people comment on this being Gemmell's only use of the first person narative. I honestly didn't notice any change in the quality of the writing.
