First things first, I've always been a bit sniffy about Jazz, never really taken any interest in it. However, not one to dismiss a whole genre out of hand on the evidence of a few Fast Show sketches, I thought I would give this box set a try.
How do you encapsulate a hugely diverse genre as Jazz in just 25 cds? I suppose you pick your 25 "names" who most represent Jazz as a whole and feature one of their albums, which is exactly this box set does and it does it fantastically well. A lot of thought seems to have gone in to selecting the albums.
Musically, there's very little to dislike about this collection and a hell of a lot to love. Beautifully presented and although you may not like everything, at a little over a quid an album, it represents amazing value. That is the point of a sampler after all, dip in, find what you like and develop your tastes from there. If you are new to Jazz, I can't recommend this box set highly enough
