Customer Review

on 30 September 2010
This story, a true one, had been republished in 1982 because of its very particular slant on wartime action seen through the eyes of a junior officer. The author's story starts in Tunisia and follows the action through Sicily, Italy and then Arnhem where Peter Stainforth was injured for the second time and became a prisoner of war. His book tells two stories: one of the engineers of the Parachute Brigade from its inception; and the other a perceptive view of soldiers' heroism and good humour in, often, appalling circumstances. In short, it's a well written book.
