3.0 out of 5 stars Poor Showing for MW£, 20 Nov. 2011
This review is from: Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 (PC DVD) (DVD-ROM)
I believe like most i eagerly anticipated the release of MW3 but what a disappointment Single player is ok but a little short an experienced FPS player can finish in 5 - 6 hours. The real problem is the Multiplayer level. It is poor and fraught with problems. I had reached level 20 before i joined a game that was being hacked - suddenly i am at level 80 so because the game / server was hacked i lost hours of the game i would have had getting from level 20 to level 80. No way to reset your stats unless you enter prestige level which i would have eventually had i been allowed to progress at my own pace and prestige would have been the prise for competing level 1 -80. There are glitches - such as unlimited stealth bomber raids that ruin the game for everyone when someone uses it -a very common occurrence it makes the game virtually unplayable. There is no method to vote / kick hackers or the cheaters from the server so everyone suffers - no patch from infinity to stop it seems. The computer is supposed to level out the teams but one can easily find oneself in a team full of level 3 prestige players against new starts! The game constantly stops whilst it changes hosts and regularly times out which is exceedingly annoying.
The maps are small and the game resembles super mario with guns. Lots of running around in circles very fast shooting everything. Little skill or strategy involved just run fast jump up and down and shoot -i paid £30 for this?

My advice is don't waste your money

Mate you should of brought Battlefield 3, were you need to have skill..... Recommend bf3 to you. I was going to buy this but you have just put me off.. mw2 was exactly the same, I hacked on mw2 because every other F***er was and it was just away to grt some of them back, after spending £50 on the game and all the map packs, and got banned from the game (LOL no loss apart from £50). They do catch up with you in the end.. Black ops was better.... but wanted a change from the usual C.O.D game play so went for bf3.. may i add BF3 have just brought out a map pack that was FREE, has cod ever given you any thing free? apart from a head ache... hope this helps.

"I hacked on mw2"

So what you're saying is you're one of the people who breaks games for other people.

Good for you. *Slow clap*

BF3 is no different than MW3, it just adds vehicles. No "skill" is required.
Suffers similar problems to COD line. Very disappointing.

I knew what MW3 will be like. I hoped BF3 will be much better but sadly it's a let down.

sorry whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaat? No skill? BF3 is all about individual skill, strategy and then awesome teamwork too. The maps are at least ten times the size of mw3 and you think it was a let down? You can't have played it, just another hater

May be poor consolation but you can kick cheaters out of the game. However, in practice it's hard because normal server users rarely know the option on how to do that. I've suffered this kind of collective kick for knifing in a sniper game. Being able to customize a server is awesome to restrict weapons & drops, but indeed, hackers & cheaters are everywhere and nobody seems to want to do anything about it.

Thank you for the review Irish.

I gave up MW2 because one day I realised playing it made me angry.

You cant protect your profile without installing a third-party program that lets you back it up. (EA didnt bother to do this probably because it would effectively admit fault)
I realised that I would probably never get the top accolades because there was ALWAYS someone cheating who was going to stop my kill streak
I got tired of entering games and getting my kd (kill to death ratio) screwed about by some tit with an LMG running aimbot

I know what Im talking about, because Im an admin on a PBbans protected BF3 hardcore server.

There will always be cheats on pc games, thing is in BF3 much more is done about it.

Not only this, if you play the big objective based maps (not team death match type games) the points come from capping objectives not getting kills. Often the top scoring players dies more than he kills.. but capped objectives with his squad. Aimbotters stick out like a sore thumb.

If you want online fps atm BF3 is arguably the best, with at least some cheat protection.

..... not to mention MW horrible habit of making it possible to get top score running around the battle with a knife... SERIOUSLY????? top score with a KNIFE? This one fact alone should discredit the MW series as having ANY claims of being realistic.

I would also advise you to never buy any online shooter without letting it release for a month, and doing lots of research about the level of cheating. If I had done this with mw2 I would have saved myself the cash.
