I learned of Kinnell through an anthology of poetry and some excerpts of this book were featured. The rest of the book is as good and is worth the purchase. Any or all pages could have been sampled to show its beauty. Kinnell has the true poet's touch. At places poignant and moving, the flow of images is a pleasure to digest. He subtly invites your imagination to fill in the gaps, to hear the crackle of the twig fires and the smells in the yard. Kinnell ought to be held up in the future, if he isn't already, as one of poetry's greats.
