Title change is the only constant in the Universe,
This review is from: Alien Metamorphosis [DVD] (DVD)
Originally released in 2008 as Chrysalis, the title of the Ray Bradbury short story it was based on. The fact it has just been released under the mischievous title A L I E N Metamorphosis, copying the letter spacing used in the Alien movies says a lot. The original release as Ray Bradbury's Chrysalis included a short documentary and commentary by Ray Bradbury so consider yourself short changed here, the same movie is cheaper here Chrysalis [DVD] if you really want to see it. No point paying extra money for a catchier title and a shiny new DVD sleeve.
The film itself, well it's a slow moving claustrophobic story of a group of scientists in an underground bunker trying to find a cure for an infectious disease whilst the world above them is descending into chaos, famine, riots etc, shown in a series of news channel intercuts that alleviate the numbness you may feel from watching the main story.
One of the scientists gets infected and a cocoon starts to grow around him. The fluid from that cocoon apparently has great healing potential and could even be a solution to hunger, however because it is so dialogue heavy and so little actually happens you probably won't really care. I won't spoil the ending but my reaction was to stifle a small groan and quickly press the eject button, I wasn't interested in the slightest to see who played what role or who did what.
Fans of Ray Bradbury may like it as it is faithful to the main elements of the story which can be read here S is for Space, if you are expecting any ALIEN type movie you will be sadly disappointed.
