Customer Review

on 10 June 2011
An entertaining read but the author has a far from impartial attitude towards the subject. The author's affinity with Brunel sometimes leads to almost a rant about the subject's peers, disputes between directors and companies are rarely as clear cut as to who is the correct party as the author presents Brunel's dispute with Scott Russell to be. The book also lacks any in-depth engineering detail of Brunel's projects, this may make the prose flow better and the book more accessible to those without engineering knowledge but as a Mechanical Engineer i would have wished for far more examination of the technical details of Brunel's achievements as it would be interesting to compare the calculations to the ones that we perform today.

In summary this book is an entertaining read and offers an overview of the career and life of Brunel but lacks the impartiality or detail of a master biography.
