Please avoid this film at all costs. I am such a fan of 19th century literature, but I am also a huge movie fan too. I'm not the type of person who would say, don't watch the film because it's nothing like the book. I love the book, I love the George Sanders version of the film. I hate this film because it is a bad film. Othello, an earlier Parker film is excellent: subtle, lyrical, moving, beautifully acted. It surprises me that he made this. Bad films come along all the time, but it's so disappointing when one uses such rich source material - and manages to flatten it entirely. This is tedious, poorly acted and it all seems to take place in one night. Can't remember the last time I was so disappointed with a film. Please don't let Mr Parker near a camera again. He's clearly forgotten what to do with it.
