I loved this captivating tale of a girl growing up in occupied Palestine, forging her own identity, and asking herself the questions she knows she can't ask her family and friends. I particularly loved the dynamic between Butterfly and her indiscreet younger sister, Tala, and the way Butterfly observes the hypocrisy of the adults around her. Although I came to the book knowing very little about daily life in Palestine, I left it with a vivid image of Butterfly's world, as well as a strong desire to learn more. Code Name: Butterfly is both a beautiful coming of age tale, and a compelling account of the injustices faced by those living under occupation. Highly recommended.
