This review is from: Young Bond: By Royal Command (Paperback)
The book starts well but the romance between "darlin" Roan and James never seems more than a schoolboy crush, and showed he had the emotional maturity of a 14 year old public school boy, whatever his intellectual aspirations. At least Alex Rider had real relationships with women and didn't just fancy pretty teachers or cleaners with whom he had nothing in common.
The running away is particularly unbelievable and if he'd been more true to character fewer people would have ended up dead and the baddies would still have been caught. If this is the end of the series then there is nothing in it to suggest why James Bond decided to become a spy or how he became a great seducer.
My 15 year old son thought it was "OK" but didn't get what he saw in the woman either.
