I purchased this for my wife and we are both really impressed. As a keen photographer myself I scoured the review sites before before buying this model, looking at the sample shots and so on and finally chose this Canon. When you switch it on it bursts into life - it's really fast - and even though it's very small the big screen and ergonomics make it easy to use and feel comfortable in your hands. There aren't any 'real' manual controls, it's just a point and shoot really but you can take control of flash, backlight and EV should you feel the need (though backlit shots have been sorted automatically so far) and there are a few modes for certain situations, night time etc; the 'kids & pets' mode is really useful - it keeps the focus on those tricky, fast moving subjects! The camera is an ultra-compact, so don't expect SLR quality (I've given 5* because of price, features, size, relative quality etc) but do consider the all-round package. Of all the reviews I've read no one mentioned the software you get from Canon to transfer to and from your PC (or Mac). The Canon suite is really easy for tranfering, organising and printing your shots so if you are new to computers and/or digital imaging, bear this in mind. You also get some editing software which as yet I haven't tried (we already use another package). If you want an ultra-compact, quality camera, you should seriously consider this one, it really is a joy to use.
