Customer Review

3.0 out of 5 stars Far from perfect but as good as any other - and probably better than most., 7 Aug. 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: KiwiBird® NEW 8 pin 5-in-1 Digital Camera Card Reader with 130mm Convenient Cable for Apple iPad 4/ iPad Air/ iPad mini/ iPad mini 2 with Retina Display | Supports Micro SD(TF)/ SDHC/ Mini SD/ MS DUO (SONY)/ MMC/ M2 Card | Supports MPEG-4/H.264 Videos and JPEG/RAW Photos [12-Month Warranty] (Electronics)
This worked with my GoPro, Canon s100, Sony RX100 but not with my Nikon d7100 , it wiped the latter cameras memory card rendering it unusable until it was reformatted in the PC. There is a warning about this in the instructions although they say it will only happen if you remove the card while the blue light is flashing but this wasnt the case.
I've tried a couple of these type of readers and read many reviews and it seems they are often quirky, this includes the Apple branded product. Judging by the reviews the Kiwi Bird is no worse so if you must buy one of these readers this one is probably as good as any given its half the price of Apple's own.
Its faster than a wireless card but not by as much as you'd think. You certainly won't get the sort of speeds you'd find in even a desk/laptop, even an old budget machine so don't expect to be blown away by this product but if it works with your camera you'll probably find it useful and if you find it doesn't work, I found Kiwibird to give great customer service offering me a full refund without question.
In short, definately worth a try.

Dear customer,
Thank you for bringing this issue to our attention. To help other perspective customers further,we will explain this issue in detail.

Generally speaking, in rare cases, old SD card which has never been reformatted before might became unreadable if you remove the memory card while the device is reading( flashing blue light on). Because apple iOS system only recognise photos on FAT32 file system. Some old SD card might be FAT16 file system as factory setting. Thus, iPad try to put files in correct settings and hence the issue could arise(Once initialising SD card as FAT 32 file system on PC, this issue will never happen again).

We strongly recommend perspective customers should back up all your photos and format SD card on PC or camera before using our card reader first time. Please feel free to contact us at kiwibird_direct@outlook.com if you need further assistance.

Warmest regards,

Your KiwiBird Amazon Team
