Engaging and vibrant Chilcott,
This review is from: Liszt:Piano Vol. 42 (Audio CD)
Bob Chilcott is fast becoming one of the most important composers in the UK choral music scene. His compositions are immediately attractive, accessible and tuneful. Chilcott always demonstrates a magical empathy with his chosen texts; finding a depth of expression in his lyrical melodies. It is a joy to hear many previously unknown shorter compositions on this excellent CD - particularly the beautiful setting of 'Our Father' and the title track 'Everyone Sang'. With the support of the excellent Will Todd Trio, the tight ensemble and groove of 'A little Jazz Mass' provides a well judged contrast to the programme.
The Wellensian Consort sing with commitment, clarity and beauty. Their vibrant young voices seem perfectly suited to this repertoire, with some delightfully sensitive accompaniment provided by Gemma Beeson.
Hugely enjoyable and strongly recommended.
