Customer Review

on 15 June 2014
Let me just start off by saying the film is not good. There are some good elements to the film. Visual style is stunning-or would be had it not been done before in other 'dark' fantasy films. But first the good- Angelina Jolie does a great job at capturing the villainous Maleficent and working with what she can to make her a great character. I bow my hat to the visual effects department for her make up.
Now the bad, yes that's right. Not a single other good thing in this film. The film feels like cheap CGI. Nothing looks even remotely real. I'm not talking about the freaky creatures or faries, both of which look like CGI plastic. I'm talking about the backdrops. The settings. There is only one scene in the film where I thought It looked like it was filmed in a real meadow.
There were also many pointless and rushed scenes. For one thing, why didn't she just make the crow talk instead of changing it into a guy then back into a crow again. Speaking of which he just declares his allegiance to her in the most bland way possible.
Bird-"You saved me, now i'm your servant"
Cheekbones-"Why?"
Bird-"Bad script writing"
Most of the cast could have done better than they could have and Elle Fanning and Brenton Thwaites as Aurora and Philip were just wrong for the parts. Neither could pull off a good British accent-If that was what they were going for. And both seemed out of place. Why on earth they chose Elle Fanning is beyond me, not saying shes a bad actress but still. And what was with the prince? It felt the producers were just looking for male models and thought.
"Yep, this one will do it"
"Are you sure sir? Its just he looks like a Jonas brother"
"That's what girls think is hot these days, this is what there going to get"
"Ok, if you insist. And what about the casting for sleepi-"
"Elle Fanning"
"...Sir you said you wanted a sleeping beauty"
"Thats right"
"Well I see the sleeping part...just not the beauty"
"What!"
"She's more like sleeping troll"
"Now see here. This is handsome and this is beauty."
"Ok,ok...what about the script?"
"Script...what script?"
For a kids film its fine ( ok there are two off screen deaths but you get it). Its completely bland for both kids and adults to get but relationships between characters is never really touched on. A few scenes you see character development but then. Poof. Gone. I wouldn't recommend wasting your money on this flick unless it drops considerable in price. But to be honest the trailer are better than the film.
