3.0 out of 5 stars Quality control poor - but once fixed, worked great, 8 Oct. 2011

This review is from: Silverline 104616 Oil and Fluid Extractor Pump, 4 L (Tools & Hardware)
Picked this up for emptying some diff casings that didn't have drain points.

At first I figured it was completely useless, because it barely developed any vacuum whatsoever and would have taken several hours to have drained 2 litres of diff oil!

However, on inspection, turns out the flap within the pump that acts as a valve was incorrectly fitted and was not sealing upon pumping. A quick removal of the circlip, re-seat of the flap properly, and the item was working 100% as expected - and did the job fine.

Clearly not much quality control going on at Silverline but provided you're happy to do a bit of fiddling (if you get a bad one), then worth the money.

Hi Dahn,

Completely agree, so far the product is useless. Instead of sucking the pump is pumping air. I am so upset. You mentioned a repair for the pump. I will try my self to do it.
Very very angry. I did not now DIY include to repair products sold in Amazon.

:(((

Glad my feedback helped! If it's the same problem as mine, it's a 2 minute fix.

Thank you DanH, this is brilliant. My husband had the same problem and was fuming so I decided to try and investigate for him. Found this and we fixed it together, the rubber flap was just sitting there and not held in place by the hole in the middle of the metal plate.

Husband now happy!

Thank you

Karen
