Customer Review

on 7 June 2012
I picked up this book because I have always had a fantasy about living in the wilds with a man like Eustance Conway, and given the number of girlfriends Gilbert tells us about in this biography I am not the only one. Eustace lives in the woods, on land that he has devoted his life to acquiring, and is on a mission to tranform America and revive the human connection with nature, believing himself to be a Man of Destiny. This is a great book about a different way of living and it is partly to Gilbert's credit that she has written an objective chronicle of a fascinating man. However, given that Gilbert has noe revealed so much of herself through later work it is odd not to hear more from her about the fully story of their friendship and her real feelings towards him. Fans of Eat, Pray, Love will miss her insights. Nevertheless a fascinating read and a call from the wild that might make you question the way we live now.
