A compulsive and uncomfortable read about where the internet age could eventually take us... into a totalitarian nightmare of every human being fully known, monitored, traceable, and ultimately controlled. It highlights the our addiction to being "seen", our addiction to online communication with friends and strangers giving a sense of community and rapid feedback that is then open to abuse and manipulation by corporate interests. This book, which is not great literature, is nevertheless a page turner which outlines the logical conclusion of various info tech company initiatives already happening today. The fictional company described by the author has become a shark (a monster) that has devoured all other competing companies and is beginning to rule the world, making up its own rules and self-serving philosophies as it goes along. It's a thriller and an enjoyable ride but it eventually left me, the reader, with heart-sink about a possible human future such as this.
