"Are the Saudis Sunk?",
This review is from: Saudi Arabia Exposed: Inside a Kingdom in Crisis (UPDATED) (Paperback)
A very interesting and informative book, written by the author of another excellent book "Inside Egypt: The land of the Pharaohs on the brink of a revolution" which is about the authoritarian regime of Mubarak (timely given recent events).
This book, written by a journalist who had apparently unusual access to the lives of ordinary Saudis, and lived amongst them for some years, is both informative for the general reader, and for anyone keen to understand more about the intricate relationships between the West and the Saudis, and between the Saudis and their Middle East neighbours - it was intriguing to read of the plots apparently coming from Libya against the Saudi rulers, as well as the shaky relationships with Iran, Iraq, Kuwait, Yemen and others.
I did not previously know of the tribal relationships and background of Saudi Arabia, and feel all the better informed for having read this very entertaining book.
Definitely a well worthwhile read for anyone interested in the Middle East.
