The best in the field so far,
This review is from: Samsung STB-E7500 3D Dual Core Smart Hub Set-Top Box with 500GB HDD and Built in Wi-Fi (Electronics)
I am a pain in the ass. I took six months researching TVs -almost getting divorced- before making my purchase (pioneer 50" plasma a while back) so took a while picking a PVR especially when the future is a custom type PC, but not a PC, when the tech eventually comes good. The Samsung is a product with a pedigree and functionality brief that put it on a let's look at this product list. It's pricey, not a good starter and I was wary after five separate manufacturers of the same genre in my house failed to deliver what I sought.
I have had the product for a year. I like it, it works, does everything I want it to. I have had hangs but only when fiddling with the guide and punching the remote buttons too much. Probably about three hangs in one year if that. I use it, the wife uses it all the time, everyday and it works well.
Advice! Keep it connected to the Internet all the time so you get firmware updates. Like all software in the world (that's every device) there are bugs due to specific user scenarios. You don't know about them only when a "update" comes down the pipe classed as an enhancement.
Why 4*? There is always room for improvement and no doubt the next gen will have it. It would be great if you bought something that lasted like your TV of old 20 years ago. But today it is a never ending device/software circle of life that never ends until you retire and can't afford the tech -boohoo.
I would buy another and a samsung TV from their smart range. Would prefer Plasma (better than OLED, LED, etc.) on the fast picture realism, not room day light colours/picture detail but of both depend on the source. My wallet is already creaking of old age...
